Welcome to a new weekly email from iThemes! We are going to be trying a few experiments out over the next couple of months in how we do email.

Let me first introduce myself to you. Hi! I’m AJ Morris, the product and marketing lead here at iThemes.

Each week we’re going to be sharing with you what’s going on over here at iThemes and the WordPress community at large. If you like what we’re doing, please let us know. And if you don’t like what we’re doing? Let us know that too!

This week at iThemes

We released a new beginner’s guide for you called the WP-CLI Beginner’s Guide. It takes you through interacting with WordPress outside of the browser and into the command-line. The command-line doesn’t need to be a feared place. In fact, there’s much you can do that and this guide gives you insight in what you can do with WordPress.

Nathan Ingram held office hours yesterday answers your questions. You can watch the replay or if you have a question, make sure you sign up for the next office hours happening on Feb. 18th.

Nathan also ran his monthly Plugin Roundup this week. As WordPress continues to evolve, so does this monthly webinar series. Recently, Nathan has broken it up to cover a number of different plugins, ones that work with Beaver Builder, ones that work with the WordPress Block Editor and some that can just end up in your toolbox. A couple of favorite for me were the Update Intervals, Block Conditions, and a new plugin called Launch with Words.

We are also starting a new mini series on the blog discussing what it looks like to become a Web Designer. In fact, we are going a little deep into the web designer field this month and running a Web Design Bootcamp with Michelle Schulp. Next week she’s going to be presenting on How to Speak Unicorn - Understanding the Language of Design.

We have a number of resources available to aspiring web designers out there. If that’s you take a look at these helpful links.

As we dive deeper into the Membership space with Restrict Content Pro, I recently wrote an article discussing how to handle failed payments and involuntary churn. If you are building a membership site, you’re not going to want to miss this!

Finally — we’re running a site-wide sale this month on iThemes.com. You can save 35% off any product we sell on iThemes.com. Check out the link for full details.

This Week Around WordPress

The biggest news by far is that WordPress 5.7 Beta 1 was released! It’s currently being targeted for a release of March 9th and will contain a number of improvements. The biggest core improvement I’m looking forward to is the ongoing cleanup with jQuery. On the editor site there’s a ton of new features that I can’t wait to checkout.

In fact, I think I’m going to create a test site and install the WordPress Beta Tester plugin to start checkout out the changes.

If the news of WordPress 5.7 Beta 1 wasn’t enough, WordPress also announced the release of 5.6.1. Make sure you run your backups before updating to this maintenance release. We’ve got a backup plugin if you need one.

WordPress launched a podcast called WP Briefing with new episodes expected every 2 weeks. I’m not sure WordPress needs another podcast about WordPress, but it will be interesting to see how they differentiate from others.

Matt Medeiros over at the Matt Report released a podcast episode titled, Founder Marketing. As someone that is moving out of being the WordPress guy and into being a content creator, I can relate to a lot of what he discusses in this episode.

And I have to give a shoutout to Chris Badgett over at LifterLMS this week. He showed a video of how he heats his lunch on his woodstove in his office. I see Chris as the ultimate hustler. This I think just proves my point.

Until Next Week!

It’s an exciting week to be in the WordPress community and here at iThemes. I’m thankful for the friendships I’ve made over the years. As we go into the weekend, I hope you all get some time to get out and away from your computers!

I’ll be back next week with another edition of This week at iThemes!
