The Monthly Scrub: June 2019

Hey there!

Happy Summer everyone! While you pack away your winter coats, plan beach vacations and early Fridays, the skincare industry is just gearing up for the summer rush.

And in case you hadn't heard, June is Pride month! Which means in addition to the seasonal rollout of sunscreen and seafood, every fashion, beauty and skincare company in the US is comin' in hot with it's rainbow products.

So what happened in June?

Keep up with Sundaily

Spotted.

This week our CEO, Chris opened up his weekly copy of Life & Style, because he is absolutely a subscriber (#brangelina) to find a Sundaily shoutout.

And earlier this month, Beauty Independent sat down with our #brangelina superfan for an interview on Sundaily's growth, standards and new partnership with Goop.

In The News

If you google 'beauty' in the news this week, you're going to get a dozen articles quoting our fare President for calling his daughter, Ivanka and Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo "Beauty and the Beast". Not exactly what you had in mind?

Allow us to redirect you:

Who's first?

The queen of the Kardashian-Jenner clan has said her piece. And that piece is, "move over little sister, let me show you how it's done

...on Grandma"

Kim Kardashian announced the launch of her new body makeup earlier this month to some very mixed reviews. Her body foundation does exactly what it sounds like: gives all women the foundational support to love their bod- oh, nope, it covers up your body blemishes and uneven skin.

Naturally, a body foundation is going to cause a bit of a stir in the beauty community. So to show the benefits of her KKW products, she demonstrated the controversial foundation on her 84-year-old grandmother.

That's all well and good, but I think the question on everybody's mind is, do we really have the bandwidth for another fake-tanner-on-the-bedsheets epidemic?

Who else?

It turns out the late Karl Lagerfeld blessed us all with one more gift before his departure from the mortal plane (we all know he will continue to haunt the immortal fashion plane forevermore).

This week L'Oreal Paris revealed that they had collaborated on a makeup line with Karl Lagerfeld and will continue to roll out the product line by September of this year.

Karl, known for designing some of his sketches in eyeshadow, is...in reality known for his high-neck collars, sunglasses and his cat, Choupette. So this launch came as a delightful surprise to many in the industry.

So about pride...

On the one hand, it is awesome to see LGBTQIA+ people supported by so many more 'mainstream' communities and companies than ever before.

On the other, how much is just lip service for the sake of a dollar?

We love this list of 14 LGBTQIA+ owned beauty brands to show you the way. Put your money where your rainbow colored mouth is.
