If you can only get one organic item, make sure it's your crib mattress.
Ideally everything that touches your newborn baby's skin should be organic, but that's not always practical. Our number one recommendation is to get an organic crib mattress for your nursery.
Babies can spend 16 hours a day in their cribs, and non-organic mattresses can release potentially toxic chemicals into the air and your baby’s lungs. They are usually made of polyurethane foam which can break down and release VOCs. This foam is also highly flammable, so it is usually sprayed with flame retardant chemicals that you would not want your infant exposed to.
Organic mattresses are made of cotton instead of foam and are made flame retardant using wool, latex, or with a thin plastic flame barrier.
