Tomorrow’s the start to a brand new week full of opportunities – let’s make sure you’re ready to take on whatever comes your way!
By doing some stretching before bed, you can make sure you get a great night’s rest and wake up on Monday feeling great.
LEGS UP THE WALL
This restorative pose is exactly what it sounds like. Lie back on the floor with your legs up against the wall so that your tailbone is right at the base of the wall – or as close as is comfortable. Rest your arms however you’d like and stay here relaxing for up to 5 minutes. Doing this reduces swelling in your lower body and turns off your sympathetic nervous system, activating the stress response.
Once in bed, lie face up and bend your knees a bit deeper than 90 degrees at your hips, keeping your knees and feet together. Keep your head and spine in a straight line, engage your core, and twist to the right to drop your knees to rest on the floor. Extend your arms to the sides to form a T-shape and turn your head to face left. Hold this pose for 15 to 30 seconds. Return to the starting position and then repeat on the other side.
KNEE TO CHEST
Finish off with a classic. Lie face up with your legs extended. Keep the left leg extended and slowly pull the right thigh toward your chest. Hold it there for 20 seconds then repeat on the other side. Then hold both knees to your chest at the same time and wrap your arms around your shins, and give yourself a tight squeeze.
These stretches will release tension and get you ready to feel your best this week.
