In The News

Whew! Enough about us. What a month! August has been quite the experimental month in the clean beauty industry. From Walmart’s clean beauty launch to introducing CBD makeup, you’re in for a surprising ride down below.

Walmart?

Get in loser, we’re going skin care shopping...at Walmart? You read that right: Walmart. You know we’re always on the lookout for clean beauty news, and this little surprise definitely caught our eye. Just a few days ago, Walmart released their very own skincare line, with all products $10 or less, called Earth to Skin.

Earth to Skin is Walmart’s own take at the ever growing trend of clean beauty, with all items between $7 and $10. While there’s no true set of guidelines for what “clean beauty” really is, according to Allure Magazine, Walmart’s own definition is “no parabens, phthalates, petrolatum, mineral oil, sulfates, gluten, or animal testing.” So is it too good to be true, you might ask?

Well, that’s ultimately up to you to decide. As clean beauty becomes more and more popular in the makeup and skincare industry, the definition of what “clean” beauty really means becomes more and more debated. But the truth is, while we definitely don’t have all the answers, who still doesn’t love a good $7 face mask? We’ll take ten.

CBD Anyone?

You’ve heard of CBD supplements, CBD serums, CBD chocolates, and even CBD skincare. Now, get ready for CBD...makeup! The folks over at Kush Queen, a notable cannabis brand, has entered the realm of clean makeup. However, the catch is: It’s CBD-infused.

Will I Get High?!: For the CBD versions - no, as CBD is not psychoactive. CBD is a separate compound from THC, which is the chemical that does most of the “getting high”.

However, in states which have decriminalized marijuana, Kush Queen’s product apparently will include THC. So double check your label!

Bonus CBD Pop Quiz: Does CBD actually get absorbed through the skin? Answer: It’s actually a hot debate in the CBD/skincare world whether or not CBD absorbs all of the way through the skin and becomes effective on the body the way ingestibles do.

There are actually a large amount of beauty articles backed by data showing that topical CBD only interacts with the skin’s surface and pores, but doesn’t ultimately reach the bloodstream. So what do you think? Topical CBD: CBDo or CBDon’t?
