Hey! Double R here!
Thanksgiving is nearly upon us, and trust me—winning the holiday has nothing to do with fancy tricks. It’s about prep, good tools, and hangin’ with the people you love. I pretty much run the same playbook every year (classic is classic), but these 5 hacks? Total. Game. Changers.
1. Do the Boring Stuff First ☑️
Take two minutes and inventory your gear. If you don’t have a roasting pan, this is your sign. If you only have a foil option, park it on a baking sheet. And test your oven in advance with an oven thermometer. If you set 400°F and your oven is secretly vibing at 365°F, no one wins.
2. Have A Turkey Strategy 🍗
Hot take: Two smaller birds > one giant one. They cook faster, they’re easier to handle, and you still get that big dramatic carving moment we all live for. Bonus tip: once the bird’s done, loosely tent it with foil, throw a thick clean towel on top and let it hang out. It’ll stay hot for over an hour, freeing the oven (and you, to plate other dishes).
3. Mash Potatoes Like a Pro 🥔
The day before: peel your potatoes and store them submerged in water in the fridge (or on the cold porch). Day of: drain, refill with cold water, and start cooking. Starting them cold = even cooking, every time.
4. Stock Is the Secret Sauce 🥘
Make a big batch of turkey stock in a giant pot ahead of time (more than you think you need) and freeze it. Stock is everything: stuffing, gravy, and the key to reviving dry turkey. And yes, dry turkey happens. The fix? Dip slices in hot stock for a few seconds. Instant moisture.
5. You Don’t Have To Do It All 🥧
Let guests bring apps or dessert. They feel helpful, you feel smart. Everyone wins.
And listen, are you container ready? Because fridge Tetris begins in prep and ends in leftovers.
You win Thanksgiving when you plan smart, cook smarter, and still have energy to enjoy the day with your people. Set yourself up for success and the rest is gravy… literally.
XO,
Rach
