We recommend selling on Craigslist to start.

It’s a great way to get your feet wet and there are hundreds of customers who may find great value in what you have to sell. 

Here are a few of the most essential tips as an aspiring DIY online entrepreneur.

#1: Take Great Pictures

No matter what you sell on Craigslist… you need to take nice photos. That doesn’t mean you should invest in professional photos either. 

All you need is your smartphone. Make sure you have good lighting and ideally the item is “staged” rather than sitting in your messy basement or garage. 

In addition to taking staged, well-lit photos – take plenty of pictures as well! The more you take, the fewer questions you’ll get via email or phone calls.

#2: Give Plenty of Details

If you say you’re selling a coffee table and you don’t list the height, length, and width – you’ll get a million questions about the item you’re selling. 

So think like a potential buyer of your item, what they’ll want to know and list all of those things upfront. Many people don’t put much effort into their listings. This will help you stand out and show you care.

#3: Offer Delivery for Big Products

If an item you are selling is awkward and heavy, think about offering “free” delivery with the purchase. 

It might sound crazy, but many people who might buy your item don’t have access to a truck or van and aren’t physically able to lift something large. 

Nail these three tips and I guarantee you’ll have prospects reaching out to you in droves.
