Is it just us, or does the “afternoon crash” always seem to be accompanied by the afternoon chaos.

Whether you’re managing after school activities with the kids, or the rush to get everything finished before leaving work, that 2pm feeling can really make things more difficult.

Even though it's fairly common, this midday crash isn't normal, nor is it very convenient!

This could happen for a few different reasons:

Mental Fog - When your blood sugar drops, your brain and body struggle to function normally, causing you to become drowsy, mentally foggy, tired, and unmotivated. Being sure to eat breakfast, as well as balanced snacks and meals throughout the day, that aren’t high in sugar, can help prevent this.

Circadian Rhythm is off - High stress levels and poor sleep habits can keep our bodies from developing a healthy circadian rhythm. This rhythm is responsible for signaling when it’s time to lower the body temperature and release melatonin. A quick fix would include something to induce serotonin production, such as a walk out in the sunshine, or a bit of exercise. However, managing stress and improving your sleep schedule is your long term answer!

Dehydration or Deficiencies - Even just mild dehydration, or lack in certain electrolytes and minerals can cause fatigue, moodiness, and problems concentrating. Drink plenty of water from the time you wake up, and be sure to take your vitamins!

The first thing most people reach for is a quick fix — caffeine or sugar. But addressing the underlying causes for the afternoon crash will help you avoid this inconvenience.
