SaaS has matured... the dynamics in the SaaS business are now increasingly looking like those of the consumer products business. Anybody can have something manufactured in an Asian factory and as a result the choice of similar products is dizzying to consumers, so they go by brand to simplify their decision-making process. And now...
Because SaaS products are so easy to build and deploy today, if a market has serious demand, it will quickly become flooded with products touting similar features. So to win, you need to win on brand.
