Back Pain Stretches

Did you know that back pain is not only about the back? Some types of back pain are caused by tensed and pulled muscles that are connected to the back muscles.

Take note of these 3 stretches that not only target the back, but also the surrounding muscle groups for a more holistic relief.

Knee To Chest

This stretch targets your hip and low back (lumbar spine) muscles.

Hold for 30 seconds. Return to the starting position and then repeat on the other side. Also, try hugging both knees to your chest at the same time so that you make a small ball. While doing this, allow your lower back to relax by taking several slow breaths.

Child's Pose

Helps relieve an achy back by increasing blood circulation to the head and releasing tension in your lower back muscles, chest, hamstrings, and shoulders.

Begin on hands and knees, then sit your hips back until you are sitting on your feet. Sink your hips back and reach your arms straight out in front of you as you keep your head down and hold this pose for at least 30 seconds.

Cobra Stretch

Targets the muscles along the front of the thigh and pelvis. You can also feel a stretch along the front of your torso and up into the chest.

Let your belly relax and your lower back tense as you prop yourself up on your hands. Hold for at least 30 seconds and relax. Do this three to five times with a minute of break in between each stretch.
