The Bhutanese Himalayas are our source of the precious wild-grown Cordyceps sinensis, found in rocky hillsides at high altitudes. These unique mushrooms, protruding from the soil by a centimetre or less, can only be spotted by highly trained and experienced locals.
Cordyceps harvesting has elevated the standard of living for many Bhutanese and opened up new opportunities in business and education. The Bhutanese government ensures that Cordyceps is collected only by approved locals, who protect the soil and the mushroom's growth cycle.
Sadly, numerous producers sell lab-grown versions of Cordyceps, undermining the business and the livelihoods of Bhutanese harvesters and their families.
At HANAH, we are committed to never substituting precious wild Cordyceps with lab-grown alternatives, and we fairly compensate all our local partners for their efforts and expertise.
