Autumn in the San Juan Mountains was absolutely stellar this year. Warm, bluebird days, cold nights and a seemingly endless show of color. A few small, early snow storms dusted the mountains for added contrast. It was like a waking dream — painfully beautiful. But at the very end of October, that all changed. A big, cold, wet storm rolled through, dumping 15” of snow in the high country and dropping leaves down low. Now it’s clear and very cold and there is no doubt, winter is upon us.

As the snow piled up, I stoked the wood stove and sat quietly in its blaze pondering the season. I felt deeply into the decay of living things, the unwinding and deconstruction of a busy summer and the coming darkness of winter. I gave thanks for this time of year when we get to slow down and honor the more quiet parts of ourselves, commune with loved ones who have passed, and celebrate our cherished human connections. I gave thanks, and as I do with all sacred moments, I lit candles.

And among the many things that I was grateful for was you — our Bluecorn customers. Thank you for supporting our small, vibrant company. Thank you for caring about locally made, sustainable products. Thank you for choosing us, and for trusting us to light your sacred moments. We are honored to be your candle company.
