Hi friend,

What's the first thing that comes to mind for a gift for a new or expecting parent? For many people, it's baby clothes. They're cute and easy to get.

But here's the thing. People don't really like to receive baby clothes as gifts. Why? Because they often end up unused—could be the wrong size, fit, or style—and contribute to clutter and waste.

A reddit thread captures this well: "I feel so ungrateful saying this which is why I’m probably on Reddit and not saying it to anyone but I hate getting baby clothes from well meaning relatives. We all know about the mental load. This just adds to it. The clothes are almost never the right size which means I need to spend time returning them...I could list them on Facebook marketplace but that’s also more work to do with time I don’t have. I could also donate them but again, stuff to coordinate...Please buy gift cards."

We did a quick poll on our Instagram last week. The result: 85% of respondents said they don't like receiving baby clothes as gifts.

The best thing to do instead is to send a gift card. It's useful and will make your loved one's life easier because they can use it based on their actual needs.

With UpChoose, you can select the number of months you want to gift and your loved one will be able to use them based on their needs and preferences.
